When we study the Bible, it’s easy to focus on the big moments—creation, miracles, and bold declarations. But often, the most profound truths are tucked into just a few words: “the stars also.”
Genesis 1:16 tells us that God made the sun and moon… and the stars also. Three small words. Yet within them is the weight of 4 x 10¹⁶ stars—each one known and named by God (Psalm 147:4). It’s a staggering reminder of God’s power and personal attention.
Likewise, in the Lord’s Prayer, we say “Your will be done.” Just four words. But within them lies God’s entire purpose for us: to become conformed to the image of His Son (Romans 8:29). Jerry Bridges, in The Practice of Godliness, lists many traits of God’s character—compassion, humility, perseverance—but perhaps all of these are summed up in this one divine aim: that His will be done in us.
These small phrases reveal the vastness of God’s wisdom and grace. As you read the Bible this week, ask yourself: what other “small” verses carry cosmic weight?
