God is in Control – Finding Your Abundant Life and Calling

The Promise of an Unchanging God

The question of who is in control is settled by God himself: “Listen to Me, O house of Jacob, And all the remnant of the house of Israel, You who have been borne by Me from birth And have been carried from the womb; Even to your old age I will be the same, And even to your graying years I will bear you! I have done it, and I will carry you; And I will bear you and I will deliver you.”

This passage shows that God is aware of the life of a fetus in the womb and has known us from before we were born. In fact, Ephesians 1:4 tells us that He knew us before the foundation of the earth! This is an unchanging truth. He promises to be the same, to carry us, and to deliver us, even into our “graying years”.

For one who came to Christ at age 26, it has been a joy to experience His support for over 50 years. Having been transformed by the renewing of the mind (Romans 12:2), one can live the Abundant Life for the past 30 years. He will continue to walk with us to the end of life on earth and into eternity!

The Unwavering Hand of Control

God is the creator of the heavens and the earth, and He is in control of everything that occurs, including the weather. Events like droughts and hurricanes are part of His plan, and they are designed to get our attention, so we will turn to Him, instead of thinking we can control things by ourselves.

Discovering Your Personal Purpose

If God is sovereign over all, what is our role? It is to discover the hope of His calling for our lives.

• Pray for Clarity: We are told to pray that God would open the eyes of our hearts to show us the hope of His calling for our lives.

• Embrace Your Purpose: Part of the reason God chose us is because He has tasks, or works, He wants us to perform during our time on earth. What do you suppose those works are in your life?

For one individual, God has shown them that their purpose is to Lead others to experience the Abundant Life of Jesus Christ, particularly businessmen, particularly Hoosiers. This transformation can be life-changing.
