One Word Focus: Rest
In a world that praises hustle, rewards busyness, and often equates worth with productivity, rest feels like rebellion. But in God’s Kingdom, rest isn’t laziness—it’s holy. It’s not a break from purpose—it’s a vital part of it. In fact, rest is woven into the very fabric of creation.
1. Rest Is a Divine Rhythm
The first pages of Scripture reveal something remarkable: after creating the heavens, the earth, and everything in it, God rested (Genesis 2:2). Not because He was tired—but because He was modeling a rhythm for us to follow. Rest was part of His design long before there was exhaustion, stress, or burnout.
If even the Creator paused, shouldn’t we?
When we honor the rhythm of rest, we’re not falling behind—we’re aligning with God’s original pattern for a full, flourishing life.
2. Rest Is Worship, Not Weakness
Rest is more than physical recovery—it’s spiritual surrender. It’s a declaration of trust that says, “God, You are in control. I don’t have to keep everything spinning.” Rest shifts the burden off our shoulders and places it back into the hands of the One who never grows weary.
When we choose to step back from the grind, we’re not being lazy—we’re demonstrating faith. We’re acknowledging that fruitfulness doesn’t come solely from effort, but from abiding in Him.
3. Hustle Isn’t Holiness
Culture says, “Keep pushing. Don’t stop. Grind until you make it.” But God says, “Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10). There’s nothing wrong with working hard—God honors diligence and excellence—but constant striving without rest can quietly become idolatry.
Hustle may lead to burnout. But rest leads to breakthrough—the kind that comes when we allow God to renew, reset, and remind us of what truly matters.
4. Rest Renews Our Strength
We weren’t created to run non-stop. Without intentional pauses, even the strongest leaders wear down. Rest is where we are filled again—emotionally, physically, spiritually. It’s where our souls breathe and our bodies recover.
Isaiah 40:31 promises that “those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength.” But waiting takes trust. It takes intentional slowing down. And it brings with it a supernatural strength that hustle alone could never produce.
5. Rest Creates Space for God to Speak
Sometimes, God’s voice is not in the noise—but in the stillness. In the quiet moments of rest, clarity comes. Anxiety fades. Peace returns. And often, direction is revealed—not through our effort, but through our attentiveness.
When we quiet the chaos and create space, we position ourselves to hear the whispers of a faithful God who wants to lead, guide, and restore us.
Let this be your permission: to pause, to breathe, to rest.
Not as a luxury, but as an act of worship.
Not because you’re giving up, but because you trust the One who holds it all.
You don’t have to carry everything.
You don’t have to run every day.
Sometimes, the most spiritual thing you can do… is rest.
