Transformation: Becoming a New Creation

Romans 12:2 urges us: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

Think of the caterpillar becoming a butterfly — an incredible metamorphosis designed by God. The same word, metamorphoō, is used in Scripture to describe the transformation that happens when we come to Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:17 declares: “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.”

This transformation has three stages:

  • Justification — the moment we receive Christ as Savior, we become a new creation.

  • Sanctification — the lifelong process of becoming more like Christ, as the Holy Spirit renews us daily.

  • Glorification — the eternal transformation when we are with Christ forever.

Transformation begins instantly, but it continues throughout our lives as we love God, love people, and make disciples. By prayer, study of Scripture, and intentional relationships, we not only grow ourselves but also participate in the transformation of others.

The question is: where are you in the transformation process today?
