Driving Worthy: Faith Behind the Wheel
By Eldon Kibbey
Paul urges us in Ephesians 4:1 to “walk in a manner worthy of the calling…” But in today’s world, our daily walk often looks more like our daily drive. So how do we bring our calling into the car with us?
In biblical times, people traveled by foot—getting dirty on the dusty roads. Jesus washing His disciples’ feet in John 13 was not only an act of humility but also a symbolic cleansing of their daily walk.
Today, we might ask: What does it look like to “walk worthy” when we’re behind the wheel?
Jerry Bridges’ Respectable Sins, reflects on anger, judgment, impatience—traits that often show up in traffic. Road rage is common, but the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) offers us a better guide: patience, self-control, gentleness.
When someone cuts you off, pray for them. It diffuses anger and centers your spirit. It’s a small shift, but it speaks volumes about your calling.
Let’s redeem our roads. Let’s drive in a way that reflects the Kingdom.
